Who We Are

The Forestry Society of Kenya (FSK) is a not-for-profit professional association and the premier body representing forestry professionals in Kenya. The Society serves as the collective voice of the forestry profession and is dedicated to promoting excellence in professional forestry practice, sustainable forest management, and the conservation of Kenya's forests and allied resources.

FSK provides leadership and professional guidance to its members, advises the Government of Kenya on forestry matters, and promotes public awareness of the critical role forests play in environmental sustainability, climate resilience, biodiversity conservation, and socio-economic development. The Society is committed to ensuring that forestry professionals are competent, ethical, and accountable by promoting high standards of professional practice, enforcing a code of ethics, supporting continuous professional development, and advocating for evidence-based policies that strengthen Kenya's forestry sector.

As a membership-based organization, FSK brings together individual and corporate members from government institutions, academia, research organizations, the private sector, non-governmental organizations, community organizations, and development partners, providing a platform for collaboration, knowledge exchange, networking, and professional growth.

Our Mandate

The Forestry Society of Kenya (FSK) is committed to advancing the forestry profession and promoting sustainable management of Kenya's forest resources. Through its mandate, the Society provides leadership, professional guidance, and a platform for collaboration among forestry professionals and stakeholders.

Statutory Recognition

The Forest Conservation and Management Act, Cap. 385 recognizes the Forestry Society of Kenya as an important stakeholder in the governance and development of Kenya's forestry sector. The Act provides for the Society's representation on the Boards of the Kenya Forest Service (KFS) and the Kenya Forestry Research Institute (KEFRI), ensuring that the professional perspectives of forestry practitioners contribute to institutional governance, national forestry policy, research, and sustainable forest management.

This statutory recognition affirms FSK's role in advancing professionalism, ethical practice, scientific excellence, and evidence-based decision-making. Through its participation in the governance of key forestry institutions, the Society contributes to improved forest conservation and management, stronger institutions, and the realization of Kenya's environmental, climate, and sustainable development objectives.

The Society is also actively advocating for the enactment of the Forestry Professionals Bill, which seeks to establish a comprehensive legal framework for the registration, regulation, licensing, and professional practice of forestry practitioners in Kenya.
